Quarter horse racing returned to Canterbury Park this Memorial Day weekend 2012. I got my first trifecta win, but I can’t say I was happy with the $8.20 payout. A quarter horse race is a short quarter mile blast down the track, so there isn’t a lot of time for horses to change position. The favorite usually wins. I found out that even a trifecta win isn’t going to make you any money. I did better with a $20 exacta win later in the day, but is wasn’t enough to put me in the green. Instead of betting two $5 exactas per race, I decided to play a few trifectas and daily doubles to get some additional coverage. I only stayed for 6 races, wagered about $45 and won $28. The track tries to promote the pick 4 a lot. Nice payout, but very hard to pick 4 winners in a row.
