As 2016 comes to an end, it’s time to look back and review what was learned from this year’s horse racing season. I was never able to come close to my $750 trifecta win earlier in the season. Tracks like Del Mar, Woodbine, Belmont, and Aqueduct proved to be a challenge. I have yet to find a formula that works consistently at the major tracks. The caliber of jockey and equine at these facilities makes for unpredictable outcomes. The payouts can be large, but you need to have a wagering strategy that covers more combinations. One way to do that is by boxing 4 horses in a trifecta or 5 horses in a super. Exotic wheel bets are also a good way to include more horses in a wager. Unless you are very lucky, it’s the only way to snag one of those $1000+ payouts. The bottom line is that you have to win a few to stay in the game. Losing streaks are not fun. TVG online has been a great way to keep track of my wagering activity. I know exactly how much I’ve won and lost. It is so easy to wager online, that you can forget that it is real money you are playing with. You have to set limits on your activity or your bankroll will not last very long, especially if you are betting at the big tracks.
