The 2024 Kentucky Derby was a thriller. 3 horses had their noses at the finish line. Of course, none of them were my future wager bets. Here are the top 4 finishers: (3) Mystic Dan, (2) Sierra Leone, (11) Forever Young, (4) Catching Freedom. Mystic Dan was ridden by Brian Hernandez and trained by Ken Mcpeek. Mystic Dan was 18-1 and paid $39.22 for a $2 win bet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Since I had Fierceness, Dornoch, and Catching Freedom on my future wagers, I went looking for another horse to use as my TVG money-back special win bet. I decided to go with Mystic Dan because he was the only horse to have triple digit speed figures in his last 2 races. He was on my B-list because he had only won one of his last 3 races. His last race was a 3rd place finish in a grade 1 race. But his average speed was 2nd highest among the Derby runners, with only Fierceness ahead of him by 1 digit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I just missed hitting the trifecta by one horse. I had “Just A Touch” on my ticket instead of Mystic Dan. I also missed the Derby Double by not having Mystic Dan as one of my three Derby horses. In total I wagered $35 dollars on the Derby and won $39.22. TVG also gave me a $5 bonus bet, so I actually only wagered $30 of my own money. As you can see, my gambling budget is extremely tight this year. Live racing at Canterbury Park starts on Saturday, May 18 this year, just in time for the Preakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
