I found a link to the free Statlines on the Equibase website while viewing the entries for an upcoming race. The “Statlines” button is in the upper right corner next to the “Entries Plus” and “Smart Pick” buttons. At this time, Statlines is not available on the Equibase app. I put Statlines to an 8 race test this week at a race at Canterbury Park. If a horse was mentioned in the report, I marked it down on my spreadsheet. The number of horses they mentioned was between 1 and 4 for each race. Statlines had the winner in 5 out of 8 races. This was the same result as Timeform, but a different set of 5 races. They both had the same winner in 3 races and 1 time neither had the right winner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will take further testing to see how valuable the data is, but it looks promising at first glance. Anytime we get more free access into the Equibase data, it’s a good thing. This will help uncover handicapping trends that are not always present in traditional past performance data. In the case where there is a positive mention for almost every horse in a race, it may be less helpful. In that case, I would focus on trainer and jockey. There are always going to be 1 or 2 races where the winner is a complete surprise.
